Every year during Aidilfitri, since the passing away of my younger brother in 2011, it has been our family’s tradition to go to the graveyard to pay respect to him who passed away at a very tender age of 9. Last year, other relatives also joined in together with us to recite the yasin.
Last Raya, my family held an Open house where we invited neighbours and friends of all races to share the joy of Aidilfitri, the month of thanksgiving and sharing. My father also invited a group of kids from a nearby orphanage home so we can share our joy together with the less fortunate and they surprised us by presenting nasyid songs which they sang for all of the guests who were there at the time. It was such a memorable Raya and their presentation touched many kind hearts who in turn, gave them ‘duit raya’ or gift packets containing money.
